Inside the museum, you’ll skip the queues and dive straight into its extraordinary collection of artefacts, tracing humankind’s journey from the Stone Age to the modern era.
Your guide—and qualified archaeologist—will reveal how relic hunters and explorers of the past made their discoveries, as you travel from ancient Egypt and Assyria to Greece and Rome, Viking Scandinavia and Aztec Mexico.
Along the way, you’ll pass some of the museum’s most prized objects—the Rosetta Stone, Parthenon Marbles, Lewis Chessmen, and more—before pausing to play an ancient Mesopotamian board game, the rules of which were first deciphered by British Museum scholars.
After a break for lunch, the second part of the tour explores ancient languages and the science of archaeology.
You’ll practice writing your name in Egyptian hieroglyphs, as well as getting to grips with carbon dating, the processes that bury archaeological sites, and a few unsolved mysteries of the ancient world.
